THE KINGFISHER - 1991 - 94×112THE KINGFISHER – 1991 – 94×112

For the series of painting representing animals composed of the figures of their plunders, the Painter describes the kingfisher through an intertwine of coloured fishes that grade from grey to orange, up to touch blue shades. The whole scene happens in the water and symbolizes the main characteristic of the winged animal, that is able to fly as it is a sky inhabitant, yet it feeds of fishes. The kingfisher is a character of the Greek epic: with the name of Alcione, she was Eolo’s daughter, a symbol of femininity, and she challenged Zeus. Then she has been punished with the transformation in an animal and forced to build the nest along the shores of the rivers, whereas waters can easily destroy the shelter. The surrealist painting has reported it as a protagonist of the waters, as it could make justice to its vivacious beauty.
